Apure Cocoa is found in Venezuela’s South Western region. It is cultivated in the tropical humid forest of the Apure State, specifically in the Páez Municipality, in alluvial, deep and fertile soils with well-drained medium textures; the water balance of this area favors the cultivation of this fruit.
A Trinitarian variety with a strong Criollo ancestry is produced in this area with more than 30% pale violet and white colored large beans. When fermented they develop various fruity flavors with a pleasant citric acidity. This Cocoa´s harvest is concentrated in 8 months of the year.
